Automated sorting return goods
On average, 60% of online purchases are returned. The costs for processing returns are 400% - 500% higher than for shipping an order. Automatic sorting machines offer a perfect solution here, as return goods can also be sorted automatically.

Returns = Inbound
For an automatic sorter, returns are no different from inbound sorting. However, returns require inspection (looking, smelling, repackaging, etc.). That's why return inbound sorting often takes place via a VAS location (Value Added Services). For example, clothing is repackaged here. Return items can then be directly returned to sale (cross-docking), back into inventory, or deemed unsellable. Our sorting solutions standardly offer the option to add a VAS location.
Returns
Returns are inextricably linked with online shopping. Easy (free) returns are part of the overall customer experience. The reasons for returning something are often obvious:
- it doesn’t fit (wrong size);
- product is different than expected:
- item may be damaged;
- product doesn’t function properly;
- wrong product received;
- multiple items ordered for comparison.
Automated sorting of returns
Returns are therefore labor-intensive and relatively costly. All the more reason to take a serious look at this and discuss the possibilities with an expert. Our consultants frequently come across similar cases in their day-to-day practice, and it’s exactly these shared experiences (and our sorting solutions) that will save you costs and give you a flying (re)start.
